  • 1999 evinrude fitch no power

just picked up a 150 fitch. last person said he didnt have any spark. well found the ecu not all the way connected. Well have spark now. I got the motor to fire over and idle nicely. But as soon as the motor starts i get a check engine light and alarm. You can attempt to put the motor in gear and throttle up but the motor will stay in an idle. will not go above idle. I do not have a diagnostic tester so I am not sure what code it is throwing. any ideas what it could be. the mechanic i know says it is either a water issue or oil issue. I am going to test the oil injector coil to see if it has the correct ohms. but i wont be able to do that until this weekend.
fuel in the tank is about 6 months old and has been stabilized. also it is premix already. i am wondering with the direct inject and the fuel previously mixed will cause this.

I would suspect bad TPS first then maybe low voltage bad Reg/Rect.not producing enough voltage for injectors but really that shoiuld produce a missfire.

I am thinking the same thing. I removed the tps sensor to try and get the the motor to go into manual diagnostic mode. It would not. Followed the manual per letter. There were no codes flashing after the wait time. I followed the instructions to clear all manual codes and hard codes. When I installed the TPS sensor back into it spot the check engine light stayed out. I am going to change the impeller this Sunday and run with water to see of the same things happens.

        update,
I was able to get the engine into the diagnostic mode by via the tps sensor. It took me a few times but the codes I got were 13 and 35. I have purchased a tps sensor since code 13 has to do with the tps sensor. reading the manual code 13 should not put the engine into slow mode. But if the tps sensor is bad that could be the reason why it wont throttle up. 35 is the oil injection open circuit but that could have been from me disconnecting the sensor. I did get a no oil light briefly. shut the motor of and restarted and light never came back on. erased the codes but there is still hard codes. I am going to change the impeller tomorrow and it was not watering at an idle. Could the water have something to do with this.
