motor dies at acceleration.

This is my first boat, so I have a lot to learn. Bought a 1992 B***Tracker with a 60hp Evinrude motor, the idle seems rather low and when I begin to accelerate, it dies out. Eventually, I am able to get it to go, but, only after many attempts. It runs fine once I am able to increase throttle. Thanks.

The first thing I would do is check the compression in each cylinder to see if the power is there.Like you don't want 115,115 ,then 20 psi..Compression will let you know the state of the engine before you start.
