1984 Evinrude Starter

If the starter motor spins, but doesn't jump up to engage the flywheel, what is wrong with it? What part woudl I need to replace?

Try spraying the shaft above the starter drive with WD40 or the like, and
pull up the drive by hand, without any power to it, it is probably dry .

If the above does not work, check your battery and connections. Be sure you are getting the full battery voltage (12v) to the starter. If all is good, you may need to replace the starter drive.
