Rectifier

Why did the rectifier go up in smoke today? This is the third time in 2 years. last time I replaced rectifier and the stator. 1992 E150GLENC.

Well could have a momentary short somewhere in the electrical system. Excessive draw on the charging system (bad battery or equivalent). Spike in the electrical system. I am uncertain as too the actual cause, you should have it checked out by an authorized Evinrude Dealer.
