Engine Model V115SLEIE. Where do I start? One owner boat I purchased that looked great but the motor had been cooked. I've removed Exhaust covers, heads, thermostats, water pump, power packs and coils. Power pack harness adjacent to heads are melted, coils show some melting, water pump impeller is intact but shows signs of melting. The water pump housing started to melt and flow into p***ages. Head gaskets and water cover gaskets are cooked. Thermostat housing has brown sand like residue and one thermostat is stuck open. The portside exhaust filler block is cracked and missing a chuck that I found when I removed the gearbox. 2 bolts where missing and the starboard side exhaust filler block bolts where loose. As well as many head bolts and water cover bolts where loose.
I've been told by a Dealer that the filler blocks can be replaced but the engine block needs to be decked and requires dis***embling the power head completely to perform this machining. I'm not sure this time and money is necessary. The motor turns over fine and the cylinders look and feel fine the the pistons have a little lateral movement which I understand is normal. Can I replace the filler blocks without decking? Can I remove the filler blocks? If so, what are the trade-offs? HP loss? Lean operation? Performance issues? Thanks for listening to this rambling. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
