  • 97 150 Motor issues

My motor cranks up and runs and then runs out of gas and goes dead. You can squeeze the primer bulb till it gets tight and crank it back up and it runs fine till it runs out of gas. If you keep squeezing the primer bulb while its running to keep it running the no oil light will come on, on the dash. I already put an fuel pump diafram on it and a fuel check ball. Please give any information on what I need to get my boat running 100% again.

    Thanks!

    1997 150 fuel pump

I had the same problem on the same year and model motor. Check all the usual things like kinked hoses, clogged fuel filter, and loose hoses that might be allowing air in the system. Try running off a separate carry on tank if you are normally running from a built in tank. The final fix on mine, after I rebuilt the VRO and pump, was the pulse check valve just below the VRO center front of the motor. The valve was bad and the short 90deg hose that connects to the bottom of the VRO to supply vacuum to operate the fuel pump was split. New hose and valve about $20..0, all fixed.
    Hope it helps.

I had this exact same problem on my 1997 Intruder 150. Oil side of the VRO went bad. I had collected several VRO's from other people, used parts off them to rebuild mine. Been running problem free for 2 1/2 yrs now.
