  • white smoke from engine

I have a 70 horse 4 stroke that is 12 years old. This past summer I have been smelling gas when I power the throttle down quickly. Then 2 weeks ago when I started the engine up after it had sat for about 3 weeks I noticed white smoke coming from the engine for about 5 to 8 seconds. Then my Dad had the boat out last week and he said the oil light came on for about a second and a puff of white smoke came out of the engine. any ideas on what is going on.

Check the motor oil for fuel, you can do this by removing the dipstick and smelling it. If there is too much oil will cause to smoke. Usually White smoke is water or oil (oil leaning closer to blue smoke).
