I have a 1974 85 H.P #85493B. It runs great when I have it hooked up to a garden hose. When it is in the water, the motor vibrates so bad, it shakes the whole boat. I got to looking under the flywheel and the back of the stator is melted and dripped down on the carb. The part number on the stator that is on the motor is a 510839. The Evinrude web site says it is supposed to have a 0581046. Is that the wrong stator? And would the melting cause all the shaking? Thanks.

I am showing that the replacement Stator is supposed to be the 0581046 which superceeds to 0763772. Yes the wrong stator can cause a major short which can cause the silicone/plastic to melt. The melting will not cause the shaking, however if the trigger, which is below the stator, is damaged that can cause the motor to run incorrectly causing shaking.
