  • Evinrude 1988 110hp starting issues

I just had the boat out and it started and ran good. After sking for over 1 hour, I shut the motor off and it would start right back up. However, the motor would not start back up after being turned off for about 5 minutes. It would try to start but never fire all the way. The starter would also stay engaged with the flywheel after turning the key off. I would tap it to pop it back down into place. Also when trying to start back up it would sputter really fast like it was about to fire up but never did. After the motor sits for several hours it will fire back up. please help

Did you pump the bulb and try it? Sounds like one of two things, vapor lock where a hose is close to a hot surface and it is causing the fuel to boil in the line or the starter is old and drawing to many amps when it gets hot. Might put an amp meter on the cable and see how many amps it draws when it's cold and again when it's hot. It can starve the rest of the system of juice.

"Amp meter on the cable". Is this coming off the battery? I still may replace the starter and fuel line as the bulb does not get that hard when priming but works when cold or trying to restart right after shuting down and restarting within seconds. You were a big help last time. Thanks and will advise.

It's an analog meter that hooks over the cable that hooks to the starter o what ever you are testing that will show you how many amps that the line is drawing, Napa has them. Check all of the fuel lines and make sure that they are not leaning on the block, it can be a problem.
