  • Evinrude 120 water pump problems

I have a 1992 Evinrude 120 model# E120TLEND I replaced the water pump last year and the water is not coming out the hole like it should just a little bit of water not alot . I took off the lower unit several time trying out different things but still no strong jet of water. I checked the exit hose and can blow through it with ease nothing cloging it up. I went and ordered another compleat water pump kit with housing and I also ordered the bottom plate the impeller sit on cause i noticed it had some groves in it fro previous impllers coult the plate be the problem or am I working on the wrong area? I couldent pull the water pump tube that runs from the pump housing to the top of the motor it didnt act like it wanted to come out anybody have any Ideas of what the problem might be thanks for any help

I don't know your motor, have you checked the inlet screen? What about the thermostat? On most motors the tube is meant to stay in the power head so that you don't lose the washer/ o ring when doing the lower.

Check your manual and see how to remove it and then put it in water that is at the temp that is spec-ed and see if it opens. Did the old impeller come apart or was it in one piece? You might have a chunk of the old one in the tube?

no the old one looked like the new one . I'm leaning more to the thermastat being the problem it has two but i didnt think of checking them . This will be my next step when i get a good weather day to work on it.
