  • 1970 9.5 Speedtwin

Hello Guys and Girls. I am currently trying to restore a 1970 Evinrude 9.5hp Speedtwin, have got the caseings off and strippng the paint paint prior to sand blasting to remove corrosion, and respraying. My question is, how do remove the mixture adjuster from the carberettor without causeing damage to the carb body.
Any other advice that anyone may have, ie removeing sheared bolts fron the caseings, would be appreciated.

Hi, I just got the ok to post on the site, so I'm new also. Not sure of the problem with the low speed? If you are trying to take it out of the carb body the you remove the br*** outer shaft housing and then screw out the needle.

As for the case screws, is there anything at all left to grab onto? I had to lightly heat the case around the screw on mine and then turn it out with vise grips.
    good luck with the rebuild.

Hi all, I eventually found out what the problem was - me I had turned it backwards and forwards without realising it was a screw needle, the other misleading bit was, the knob was turning, but the rod was seized in the casing so it was only the knob turning. A bit of heat, after I realised, and it came free.
The application of a lot of heat and I have managed to remove a couple of the seized bolts, but some are sheared off flush, so it will be out with a drill and tap, or I may drill all the way through, spot face the 'thread' side and fit some stainless bolts, certainly make it easier to strip in the future.
I am waiting for some sand now, so I can start blasting.
