O.K. - 1st I have to admit, I changed spark plugs this week and put the wrong ones in ( NGK instead of Champion QL78YC ) . I didn't know you couldn't swap plugs untill I did some checking around. Went to the lake today, engine started off running fine. I was turning about 4200 rpm's when I started trimming down as I was about to go up in a shallow slough.
I noticed when I hit the trim down button, the engine check lights flashed, then flashed again. Each time I touched the down button, the same lights would flash. All of a sudden, my gauges stopped working. I shut off the engine.
When I turned the key back on, nothing happened, no engine check, no power trim, no lights, Nothing.
So I checked, and sure enough, the 20 amp master fuse was blown. I put in a spare, and as soon as I turned the key, the fuel guage started rising, then dropped to empty. Master fuse blown again.
Tried once more, blew another fuse. Had to troll back 4 miles to the landing.
I have been tracing wires and relays all afternoon, have found nothing wrong, and before I start unbuckling everything tomorrow, I was wondering if anyone might know what the problem could be. Could the starter solenoid be blowing the fuse? Or by using the wrong plugs, have I fried something really expensive like the rectifier or optical ignition, causing the main fuse to blow.
Any help greatly appreciated
