I have a re-built 1980 Evinrude 140-HP. The motor starts and runs fine out of the water. There is no lag on acceleration when it is out of the water, as well, but this is probably due to the fact that there is no load on the motor. The motor will start and run well up to about 1,500-RPM when I gradually start to [accelerate from a standing start]. If I accelerate VERY hard I can overcome the lag in the motor. The carburetor has been cleaned, plugs and wires replaced, all eletrical connections have been cleaned and redone to insure good connection and ground, fuel filters are clean, and [fuel] pump is in good condition. Motor runs strong at [half]-full throttle, only [problem] is motor dying when accelerating from idle or slow speed operation. Please give me ideas to test or research to help solve this [problem]. Please give them in order of most likely to least likely. Thanks a lot for the help.
