Johnson 1986 225hp connecting rod caps

I am rebuilding a 1986 225hp. The service manual shows and calls out a special rod end cap tool required to align and properly torque the rod caps. Is in necessary, is there an alternate method, and if not where can I purchase the tool other than a dealer?

you dont necessarily have to use a rod cap tool. but you must feel the sides of the rod cap to see if it is smooth. all rods for evinrudes are freeze broke and the caps must stay with the same rods. they have dots to line the correct side up. hope this helps.
