Looking for some help here. Picked up a '93 8 HP Evinrude and trying to resurrect it from the dead. I am getting good spark on one cylinder but nothing on the other one. Checked the Power Pack and only one wire is giving me power. I then checked the leads right off the power pack leading to the coil and again found that one had power and the other nothing. Thus, I "thought" the problem is the power pack and I should replace it ...................but wanted to check with others who know a lot more than me first before I bought one. Thanks in advance ...............

As far as the wires leading to the coils.... switch them temporarily to see if the other coil fires. Let us know what you find.Last edited by Joe Reeves; 08-27-2017, 09:29 PM. -
The wires I refer to are the wires from the Power Pack to the coil. When I switch the wires to the coil the same wire to the coil that had spark has it still and the other wire does not. That is why I think it is the Power pack?

I saw in the following sentence(s) where you checked the wires leading to the coils... BUT... the line I highlighted was worded as such that it was misleading.
As it stands, you could have a powerpack problem... OR... a timer base problem. Before changing the powerpack, check the wires leading from the timer base to the pack to see if they both emit the same reading.... ohms/voltage.Comment

I checked and only 1 wire has power coming out. Thus, I need to look at the magneto coils. Which means I have to pull the flywheel, etc. I was hoping for a quick fix, but so be it. Hopefully I can prevent it from being a "parts motor". Thanks for your help. Should get to the magneto tomorrow ...........stay tuned

Checked the connector from the wires coming off the magneto. Only 1 wire was giving me any voltage. i would think that 2 of the 4 wires should give you voltage? Pulled off the flywheel and did not "see" anything wrong. This is looking more and more like a parts motor
