  • 1989 Evinrude 90HP keeps blowing 20 amp fuse around 3500 rpms

I'm having trouble finding out why my 20 amp fuse keeps blowing when the engine is under a load (when I taking off on plane) around 3000-3500 rpms. The engine keeps running fine but I loose my tachometer, trim, fuel, etc. As soon as I shut the engine off I cannot restart the engine until I replace the 20 amp fuse. The engine idles and runs fine until I go over 3000-3500 rpms. I have replaced my voltage regulator and that did not take care off it. Please help frustrated boater. Thanks

The ignition is self contained, meaning it does not depend on battery voltage. Matter of fact... if you apply battery voltage to any portion of the ignition system, that will damage the ignition $$$$$! This is why the engine continues to run.

The engine, sitting an a storage rack, noting attached to it... the ignition is in effect!

Now, this rpm thing blowing a fuse....................

Are you gradually moving the throttle lever to different positions as the rpms increase? OR.............

Are you shoving the throttle lever all the way to full throttle in one quick move and simply waiting for the rpms to increase?

Have you or anyone else had the control box apart recently or had any other work performed?
