Which 6 screws do I want to loosen to get to the shift rod? The top or bottom?

I a$$ume you're speaking of the screws holding the 5" long extension housing.

The bra$$ shift connector is normally right at the top surface of the lower unit... BUT... it may have the long shift rod installed, so that makes it a toss up decision.

If it were me..... I'd gamble on the bottom six screws.

Top to get to the shift connector and bottom to get to the water pump. Got it pumping like a new one! Now if I can make it to the lake in the morning!!
