My dad is looking at an older Lowe fishing boat with a 40 HP Evinrude. He was told it was a 2000 but it may be a 2002 Model. My question is this, when were the FICHT engine issues taken care of? I own a 2000 FICHT and was told there was a transition period around that time frame, depending on the manufacture date the engine may or may not have been updated.
The boat my dad is looking at is a private sale so there will be no one for him to go back to if it fails. I am told this engine does not have many hours on it but it supposedly runs great and has never given any issues.
Also, he said he does not recall seeing FICHT printed on the engine anywhere like mine has. Is it possible this engine is not a FICHT or were all Evinrude's of that generation FICHT?
