  • 1986 VRO 60hp problems

Engine stalls as soon as it is put in gear. Compression is 120, 105, 115, from top to bottom. Just removed the oil/fuel pump with a generic fuel pump and am running mixed. Choke pump is broken and has been removed, but engine still starts ok. I dont know where to go next to get this puppy running. Cleaned the carbs well, blew em clean with compressed air after soaking and shooting with carb cleaner, also using fresh gas.

New to forums, was recommended by a friend who said go here and ask away. Thanks in advance for any insight!

Remove spark plugs... double check compression. What are the readings of all cylinders?

Plugs still removed. rig a spark tester whereas you can set a 7/16" air gap. The spark should jump that gap with a strong blue lightning like flame... a real SNAP! Does it?

If the two above areas are as they should be, I'd suspect that the high speed jets require cleaning... do so carefully with apiece of single strand steel wire as solvent/pressurized air simply doesn't do that job properly.
