My user name is Waddell,
I am primarily a cruising sailor and I use an Evinrude 1989 6 hp Yachtwin as an auxiliary. At the end of last sailing season, October 2016, the primer pump on the outboard stopped working. The pump seemed to be blocked, I couldn't pull the knob out. During the winter I took the pump outlet line off of the pump and found that the pump was blocked. the blockage is at the point were the line goes into the carburator (or carburator cover). The pump and line are clear up to that point. I tried to clean the nipple on the carburator cover with a wire. The wire would go about 1/2 inch into the fitting.
When I put the primer pump line back on the fitting, the pump is still blocked, solidly blocked, no gasoline will go through.
I suspect dirt caught in the fitting, located deep into the carburator cover.
The fitting does not seem to be designed to be removed. Will I have to remove the carburator to clean it out?
Otherwise, the engine runs well and is very reliable.
Thanks, Waddell
