  • 1985 Evinrude 60hp E60ELCO Gear Case Rebuild

Collin here, I have a 1985 Evinrude 60hp outboard (E60ELCO) that began knocking in the lower end and after doing some research I figured it was some busted up gears in the lower end. My cousin and I tore into it and quickly found the issue, the forward and pinion gears were missing teeth. I planned to replace bearings, gears and seals and had them ready to be ordered. Then I received a call that changed things a bit. My cousin took the lower end housing to his shop to press the lower end drive shaft bearing out but sent it the wrong direction which made the lower end housing worthless. Since then we have been looking for an alternative used lower end to rebuild or as a replacement. We found a 1975 50hp Johnson (50ESL75B) today and I was hoping to get some help and see if it's compatible with my motor or if someone might know where I can find a compatible alternative. Thanks for any help I can get.

    Update

I found a 1981 E60ELCIA Evinrude that might be the ticket for the replacement lower unit, can anyone help me out and confirm? Thanks!

Personally I've never been active in the interchange area so I'm of no help to you. I just didn't want you to think I was ignoring you, hence this reply. If no answer here... try iBoats.com and/or MarineEngine.com .

Thanks for the info, gonna take a gamble on the 81 and see what happens. I guess I can always sell or part it out.
