Hello, I think I need to replace the impeller. It seems to move water quite well, but I have a warning horn sounding off some times. Do I need just the impeller or will I need to buy a kit. A coworker says it is about a 30 minute job for an experienced person to do, but of course I have not worked on an outboard other than to clean the carb. Is there a good reason to stick with OEM parts or will aftermarket be as good?

Personally I prefer OEM parts, but many prefer the aftermarket parts and I've heard no complaints. I always install the complete kit unless the impeller housing and plate is perfect... no scoring, pitting, etc.

30 minutes is cutting it very close... I always gave myself an hour which included a engine run-out, double-checking and adjustments.

Thank you, I think I will do the dis ***embly first, just to check the condition of the components. Then I will decide what I will need to order.
