  • 1987 140 V4 Evinrude - running temperature

My 1987 V4 140 running temperature at idle on the muffs is at 80 degrees C.
I know this temperature is too high and the running temperature should be at about 65 degrees C. I am going to change water pump when I get home..
So why does the outboard engine have to run cooler compared to a car engine.. is it because of the electrical components absorb the heat from the engine which may cause premature failure??

    Regards.

I'm not accustomed to the Centigrade reading so I have no idea what you're speaking of, sorry. My knowledge is wrapped around the Fahrenheit setup as follows:

The outboard thermostats are designed to open at about 143 degrees. The result would be that the engine would run slightly higher than that. You'll need to make the C/F degree conversion.

          80 C - 176 F -- Thanks, Royce.
On a flushette, the hose water pressure should be on full blast. If it was not, do so as any less will result in the pump drawing air intermittently.

Check the thermostats to see when they "should" open (imprinted with figure)... and when they actually "do" open.

Water pump housing should be sealed to impeller plate... plate should be sealed to gearcase.
