Painting my Evinrude

I was thinking about spray painting my 1996 9.9hp 4 stroke to give it a fresh new look . I started thinking that for the work i'd put in to it painting it with no decals reapplied could make it hard to sell or lose value trading up. Does a repainted motor with no decals applied lose value?
