  • 1984 evinrude 4hp--cooling problem

It runs well but can't touch the head--fresh water motor--burns my fingers when touch the head--go figure!! Below is what I have tried:
    A. new water pump--complete kit
    B. New water screen--no blockage from screen to pump base
    C. Removed head & exhaust plates--I can eat off them.
    D. Blew air through all p***ages
    E. New gaskets & new water tube grommet
    F. Air blows in all directions and seems to exit where it is supposed to.
    G. Water tube is good
    H. Removed O'ring from the water pump housing & tried some silicone sealer
    I. Measured length of water tube & made sure it fit securely in rubber grommet on top of pump housing
    J. Can't install the pump backwards due to bolt pattern
    K. Made sure water depth was almost up to the 6 exhaust holes on back of motor
***********WHAT HAVE I MISSED??****************PLEASE, ANY SUGGESTIONS!!!

not sure what grommet you are talkin about. but if you havent pulled the powerhead yet, you might need to to check the grommet at base of powerhead to see if it is swollen and chokin off water supply,. also check base gasket to see if it is blown between water flow and exhaust. exhaust will enter water system and cause overheat.
