2004 225 ho dies when put in gear cold.

Just bought the boat. Runs great, just dies the first couple times you put into gear cold. If you fish a couple hours it will do the same thing. Any thoughts?

mine would idle fine but when I put in to gear it would die, check you plugs and make sure they are gapped properly. if you have not changed the plugs the gap could be too far for proper firing of the cylinder

The recommended plug gap for a 2004 model is .030 .

That problem could very well be that the idle is set too low. On a flushette, the idle varies due to shaft length......

20" shaft = 1000rpm
25" shaft = 1200rpm

When set in this manner, the idle will drop to a normal rpm when launched.

If the warm up period is shot (a few minutes) and the engine runs fine after that... I'd say that's pretty close to normal.
