  • Evinrude Etec 115 kh, cooling water coming out between the column and the gear?

    Hi
Have an Evinrude Etec 115 hp 2007-mod. I bought last summer.
When I took up the boat and motor, and should rinse it with fresh water, then I discovered that it came out of water between the column and the gear. Should it be so? Has been in contact with two workshops, one thought that it possibly would be so, the second thought that it would not be so...?

Here is a video I uploaded:
    https://youtu.be/q_p7DC-MJBg

Today, when I was going to remove the gear unit from the trunk, then I discovered that there are milling in the material (see photo below), and then I conclude that it WILL come coolant out here. Some views?

The lower portion you speak of is called the "Gear-case", the upper portion to which the gear-case is attached (the leakage point)... that long portion is called the "exhaust housing".

The leakage is normal and is caused by someone NOT applying sealer on top of the gear-case housing when re-installing the gear-case after installing a water pump or having done some kind of lower unit repairs. Nothing to worry about as far as the leakage is concerned as the leakage area will fill with debris and other marine deposits eventually.

The sealer to use..... OMC Adhesive is now Bombardier 3M Product #847 and may be listed as Scotchgrip 847, part number 776964

Actually, there shouldn't be sealant between the gear case and exhaust housing. When on muffs the water fills up the water pump cavity, and then overflows through those areas, not a worry. When sitting in the water still, that area is letting water in to keep water pump satisfied.

      Good luck.
