  • 96 Evinrude choke question

I have a 96 Evinrude 225. I removed the original key and starting system and replaced it with a push start button as you would see on cars. In doing so I had to disconnect the choke wire. So now I have no choke.

I would like to do is and this is my question. Can I connect the purple and white (primer) wire to a wire that is in use, such as the red and yellow (starter) wire? Or is there another wire I can use that the choke wire tap into?

Choke needs to have it's own button or switch, don't need to choke it after engine has been running.

Thank you. If I were to connect the choke to a seperate button how will I know the choke is being activated. Can you see or hear something?

Did you hear, or see anything when activating choke, before removing the key switch to install the push button? Do you now use a key switch before pressing your new start button?

If you install a separate push button for the choke, you should hear the same sound you heard before, when pushing the key in for choke?

        Post back when. Good luck.

Unfortunately I do not remember if i heard anything before I installed the push button. No I do not use any type of key switch before pushing the start button, as long and the RFID chip has been activated then the push button becomes functional. what does the sound sound like when the choke is being activated?

Well i'm not sure. If your choke is a primer system, it may be too quiet to hear anything, but if your choke is a solenoid system that activates linkages that close off air flow on the intake, you might hear the solenoid click when you press the button?

Only way to know, is connect the choke and try it? If motor starts fine without the choke, don't push it. If pushing the choke helps your motor start when cold, then use it?

            Good luck.
