can u take all 6 spark plug wires off to test to see if the motor cranks.

That depends on what you're trying to do?
If just trying to turn the motor over, why?
If trying to start the motor, no?

A little more info would be helpful?

      1988 grady

thankyou for ur help. I had trouble replying, but figured it out. my last 225 Johnson thru a rod. I found another 1988 225 Johnson with low hrs. swapped the motors out and just wanted to see if the motor would turn over to make sure it was hooked up right and also wanted to get things moving without starting until I put a new impeller in. Ive since got it running but not sure if the alarms are working or if I should replace thermostats. the motor was sitting for at least 5 yrs. is there a way to ck alarms. thanx again for ur help

You should be able to set some alarms off by disconnecting some sensors. Depending on the sensor, an oil flow sensor (if on that motor?), if disconnected should set off alarm, a heat sensor may, or may not, depending on how the diagnostics for your motor works? It may/may not read an open sensor as a fault on some of the older motors?

        Good luck.

If motor is running too hot to put a hand on the cylinder, I would pull and inspect/test/ or replace.

            Good luck.
