  • Needing Specs for a 1987 Evinrude 48 SPL

Hello everyone, I am working on a 1987 Evinrude 48 SPL and seem not to be able to find any specifications for the carburetor.

    Looking for specs on:

    Spark plug gap.
    Fuel mixture
Needle Jet setting for carbs (has one screw for each carb). Carbs have black plastic tops with four screws attaching them, not like the standard 48 SPL carb that are all metal with no adjustment for fuel mixture.

Plug gap you should get where buy your plugs, but generally .028-.030 in.
Fuel mix should be 50 to 1.
Carb air mixture screw settings should be identical on all carbs, should be given in manual. If no manual, and can't download one for your motor, then set at 1.5 turns open, from lightly seated. After couple hours idling, if plugs appear to be burning lean, close all mixture screws 1/4 turn each equally. if burning too rich, open mixture screws 1/4 each equally. Plugs should have a tan/ light chocolate color if burning good.
You should try to download a service manual, that will give you these specs.
It is best to set by the manual, if you can find/get one.

    Good luck.
