i have a code 28 shift ***ist circuit malfunction, does anyone have any experience with a sticking shift rod? The engine doesn't start because it thinks it's in gear.

Could it be the neutral safety switch? If not working the motor won't turn over by the starter. It is possible you have 2 neutral safety switches. One nss should be in your controller, the other nss may be under the hood connected around the shift links -
check you shift interrupter switch.Comment

Not sure why i'm unable to view the parts diagrams, but since they changed their web page, can only get the parts list? Wish they hadn't changed it.
Am not sure if the shift interrupter, is the same as neutral safety switch? On newer motors they installed a second shift switch, that if in neutral limits RPMs to 3k, unless its in gear. So the neutral safety switch is the only one that prevents the motor from cranking/ starter turning motor over. If that is called an interrupter switch, I can't tell.
