  • E30ELERM what is between fuel pump and carburetor?

I am having problems with a E30ELERM engine. It idles fine and runs to about mid throttle. Any attempt to go beyond that the engine just kills. When running it at mid throttle it increases in power if I tap the choke for a bit. So it seems to be a fuel problem.

There is this gizmo with a red lever. In the fuel line between the fuel pump and the carburetor there is a T fitting. That extra line goes into this gizmo. The gizmo also seems to have two output connections. One of them goes to a connector on the top of the carburetor and the other is just capped.

I find adjusting that lever also affects the mid throttle performance.

Looking at all the parts diagrams I cannot find anything about that gizmo. I tried looking at different models of that year and even different years but nothing.

    What is the gizmo?

    Never mind

After I took the starter off to remove the carburetor I realized the gizmo was the primer solenoid. It is shown on the intake manifold diagram. Because its orientation on the diagram is different that in the actual engine I did not recognize it sooner.

If the motor runs faster (better) when you hit the primer, the carb is running lean and needs to be fattened up. Turn you needle valve counter clockwise 1/4 turn. You may as need to clean you high speed jet in the carb bowl, not sure at what rpm the problem starts.

I cleaned the carburetor and now it is running just fine. That is after I replaced the top to the primer. I did not have the adjustment in correct place when I tightened the top and cracked it.

But that is now replaced and the clean carburetor is working much better.

        Thank you.
