    thanks in advance -
    1987 VRO 70hp evinrude -
    new plugs,
    clean vent on tanks -
    starts and runs almost always
but it will not idle well - having to push with choke to engage ...
again when operating on water no issues - cruises just fine no spurttering nothing.
but she just will not idle when warm -
looking for suggestions that do not replace carb...

Sounds like low speed idle jet is dirty. But if you remove to clean, make sure you note what it was set at before removal. If multiple carbs do each one the same way, and do not mix them up. Sometimes they put different size jets in different carbs for location?

To check setting, make sure you're looking at idle mix screw. Slowly close counting each turn, when lightly seated note the number of turns exactly, and which carb. Do the same for each carb.
Then inspect the plugs related to each carb. Note the wetness, color of each.

Good luck. Post back what you find for each carb.

Ok, well you tell us how you wish to proceed.
Do you have a manual for your motor?
Do you wish to do this yourself?
this does not require replacing your carb(s), it does require some investigation and action.
You could try running some Seafoam, or good carb cleaner in your next few tanks of fuel. This could possibly clear up your problem?

        Good luck. Let us know.

If you have someone constantly pump the fuel primer bulb, acting as a manual fuel pump, does that cure the problem? If so, you have either a failing fuel pump or a air/fuel leak at some point between the pump and the fuel supply.
