I am in the process of purchasing a 2001 Evinrude/Saltwater 200hp. The seller tells me that this engine has two fuel pumps and that the lower fuel pump has a filtering screen that gets clogged some way or another after a summer's usuage. Can anyone help me with understanding this problem and how to deal with it. It just seems so strange that after the gas p***ing through two fuel filters there would be anything left to clog anything????

I think like you do. But if it doesn't have a good water separator filter unit, that would be a good idea. Also, any filter, or screen that gets blocked had to be caused by bad fuel bought, or maybe some fuel lines, or other fuel p***age parts, breaking down from the fuel being used, ethanol?
