35hp evanrude starter

I put a new battery in my boat and the starter is still having problems turning over the motor...been looking at what it will take to remove and replace it. I can't find on web, instruction on how to do this. Is this something a boat owner can do (having good sense of course) or is it something a boat mechanic should do?
