I'm talking about fuel pump part number 435352 that is used on all 10-15 HP 1995 through 2001 (and on Johnsons 1995 - 1998).
Fuel pump is mechanically driven via the crankcase and uses a rubber diaphragm. My original diaphragm broke and broke twice more following two rebuilds.
Got in touch with a seemingly knowledgeable ER service person who said these pumps are the weakest link of these engines and was quite familiar with the failed diaphragms. He was not aware of any reliable solutions and would not even provide any guarantee if I paid for him to install a band new pump (they are scarce too.)
For starters, I am new to the forum and would like to know if this subject has already been covered. If not, I'd like to hear from people who are familiar with this problem and whether there is any hope. Am I rebuilding the pump incorrectly? Would a brand new pump be a better approach?
The tech said he heard of a guy who cobbled together an electric fuel pump replacement--blanked off the crankcase port, but he didn't have any more details. Thanks for your inputs.
