1985 15HP rewind issue

I broke my rewind last year and of course I messed up putting new line on.. Had to take the whole ***embly apart to reset the recoil spring... Have it all put back together and now my issue is when I pull the rewind, the spring I am pointing at pops off it guide then normally goes gets jammed or pops off. It actually broke once too.. What do I got going on wrong here where it'll keep popping off

It's an 86 if it matters. Didn't realize my fat fingers hit a 5

The gear shouldn't be going that high up into flywheel, something is not installed right, check that bottom of spring housing is seating correctly on mount.

I FINALLY found a picture of someone else's ***embly... I am missing a big washer that's supposed to sit on top of the pinion. That washer should keep it down! Thanks!
