  • 90HP E-Tec Alarm, Water Temp and Check Engine lights- BUT NO FAULTS in EVDIAG

    Hi all, first post here.

I have a 2006 E-Tec that I am on my 5th season with. 481 Hours on the engine. Been very happy with this engine, but now I am experiencing some issues.

Put the boat in the water at the end of April, used it 3 or 4 times with no issues.

Recently, when I take it out, after about 10 minutes of running, I get an Alarm sound with the water temp and check engine lights lit. The alarm will go off eventually but the light stays on.
If I kill the engine, and restart, everything is normal until the alarm sounds again.. Sometimes in a few minutes, sometimes right away.

Last night, I connected my laptop, to see if I can see any faults. Much to my surprise, there were no faults showing in EVDIAG, even when I was getting the alarm and lights..

I monitored the water temp through the software, and although it read much higher than the gauge (like 30 degrees higher-is this normal?), it didn't go past 180 (is it a 180 t-stat?). Once I opened her up the temp went down to the 150 range. EMM temp stayed much cooler. Less than 100.

I also notice the battery voltage fluctuates from 12.6 to 14 V, with either battery or both.

Anyone have any suggestions or advice?

    Thanks
    Mike

Look at lights on EMM if #4 light comes and alarm sounds then it is signaling an overheat, if engine is not overheating then check temp sensors and wiring.

Thanks, It turned out to be the EMM.. Not a software issue, but a hard fault in the EMM.
