  • Lower unit oil

Hi I have no idea if this is the right forum for this but anyways nice to be part of the site!!!

I have a 1981 evinrude 50hp outboard. I inherited it from my brothers when I was around 15 or so and I haven't had it running or in the water for oh about 7 or so years . Just recently I have really taken interest in getting it back in the water. So my buddy and I pulled it out of the place it's sat an took it straight to the lake. Problems: wouldnt run on full throttle and my buddy had to play with the choke while I cruise as we would switch roles back an forth I didn't care I was just happy to have it out in the water!! So I took it home took the carbs of an completely cleaned them so now it idles with out having to keep the choke on but still didn't run full bore. This past Easter I was at the lake with my brother after I changed the spark plugs thinking they were fouled an still didn't go full. I was messing around in reverse then jammed it in forward gear an suddenly it just went nuts out an ran great. But it stopped pissin water so I have to change the water impeller. While I'm doing that I decide to change the lower unit oil but I have no clue what type or grade oil to refill it with... That is my big question out of all this and sorry for the long post but if ANYONE can help it's much obliged

Use the Evinrude HI VIS gearcase oil, fill into bottom plug until oil runs out top plug, put top plug back in housing then put bottom plug back in.
