My 1988 evinrude 150 has been having an oil alarm going off every time it is at low RPM for more than a minute or so. The alarm sounds about every other second indicating an oil restriction or failed VRO pump. I have heard from my mechanic and some other people that when the VRO fails the alarm usually sounds at higher RPMs due to the pump not being able to keep up with the motors demand for oil. Does anybody know if this problem could be due to something other than the pump itself and if so where could I look to discover the issue before I bust out the checkbook for a new pump?
