  • 87 60hp vro low spark

Hi guys, just got a motor with low spark on one cylinder... I switched coils over and problem remains on the 1st cylinder.
Is a new power pack the solution?

Would need to check output voltage of source coil, trigger coil and CDI output with a peak reading volt meter to see which one is below specs, it could be any of them.

do you have a rev counter and is it working ?
before buying a power pack i would be looking for any broken wires !!!
take off the flywheel and check everything under there before buying parts.
i had similar problem but it turned out to be a broken wire that came from the stator.
i would undo every wire and re do them to know yiou have perfect clean connections, especially if you only just got the engine.

Now to take off the flywheel its going to need a puller !
i got a cheap harmonic type puller and it does the job fine.
you might find it comes off easy, but it can also be a bit of a task if its your first time doing it.
Once you have the flywheel nut off attach the puller and get ready to tighten all the 3 bolts nice and tight.
now you need to put pressure on the puller by using a nice long bar and socket to fit the main puller bolt.
once its very very tight give the top of the bolt with the socket still on the protect it a very hard wallop with a 4 pound hammer.
somethimes it can take a few hard wacks and sometimes comes off with just 1 hit of the hammer.
!!!!!!! under no circumstance hit anywhere on the flywheel itself !!!!!!!!!!
when you are putting the flywheel back on DO NOT USE ANY OIL OR GREASE
on the main shaft or the nut or woodruff key (half moon key).
and do make sure you torque it down to 100 foot pounds and re-check after 20 minutes before starting it up.
once its been run for 10 mins or so check the torque again, as a flywheel coming off at 2000 rpm or above will KILL anything in its path. !!!!!.

its a simple job once you have done one.
the same applies to any size engine, without a harmonic type puller its almost impossible and the pullers can be found on fleabay very very cheaply, under $20 us or under £15 uk.

      hope this is of help.
