I have a 1999 Evinrude 40 HP four stroke Outboard Motor Model #E40PL4EE Serial Number: S 17001665, Manufacture Date: 4/1999.
I am having trouble with my tilt/trim, I noticed a few months ago that the trim controls both at the controls and on the side of the motor would click the relay switch but would not engage the trim motor to lift my motor up and down. but if I tried it a few times it would work. Now it will not work at all, all it does it click, I asumed that it was the trim relay switch. the last time I used it I messed with the trim until I got it to work going up so I put the engine all the way up and used the engine trim lock so it would stay up. Now I cant get it to go up off the lock at all, so my engine is stuck all the way up. my down trim seemed to be working ok, that is until I bought a new trim relay switch, and installed it. now both click, I cant get it to go up or down now. Im afraid I might have crossed a wire, but I was very careful while installing to put everything back like it was. I wish I had a diagram to look at so I could insure I installed it correctly. Im pretty sure I did. both relays click when you hit the trim button. I'm already out $125 on a trim relay that appears to be no good. Any advise would be great from yall.
