  • Sync and lync - tuning

    Hi all,
I have just bought a old boat that has a 55hp commercial on the back. Not sure of the year as the id plate is missing but its between 90 and 94.
I have the service manual to set it up but its a little uncleaer. I can get the engine to run but not idle i need to open the throttle plates to keep it idling but the manual says adjust the idle screw and "pick up timing".

I have set the cable so i get a 6mm gap on the throttle lever between the spark control follower at each end. Then i done a sync of the carby plates making sure both are closed and sync.
Then i have adjusted the throttle cam so the mark lines up to the center of the follower. Then i done the carb air/fuel screw.
But now when i start it, it will run but only if i hold the warm up lever up.

Im not sure if i have done it right as when setting the throttle cam should the spark advance have its screw unscrewed and puched against the stop. So many variables, hope some one can help

    Thanks

Thanks but wheb do you set the throttle plate mark to align with the center of the follower. It says in the book to loose the idle screw and set it. But once you screw In the idle screw it moved the throttle plate forward and start to open the throttle.

Is that right or should I be adjusting the throttle plate again after setting the rpm

      Thanks

Loosen roller arm and set idle speed then adjust roller to touch cam follower.
