  • 1996 35hp Evinrude ELAN 3Cyl. Control Cable Q.

    1996 Evinrude ELAN 35hp 3 Cyl.

I just replaced the forward (remote) control cables. Now I can only get the outboard up to about half revs, so I'm only able to get the craft up to around 1/3 of it's usual speed. If I adjust the threads (at the motor end) on the cables, will I be messing around with the idle rpm too?

How should I go about getting the cable to push out to the motor's top speed again? What idle rpm should I be sitting at and what rpm should I allow the outboard to get to at top acceleration?

    Many thanks.

    1996 Evinrude ELAN 35hp 3 Cyl.

I just replaced the forward (remote) control cables for gear & acceleration.

Now when I shift the control all the way forward, I can only get the outboard rpm up enough to get the craft up to around 1/3 (7.5mph) of it's usual speed of about 22mph.
I ***ume that I need to adjust the threaded tip (at the motor end) to allow the cable to push out the acceleration to it's full potential. Is this what I should be doing?
Also, what idle rpm should I be sitting at and what rpm should I allow the outboard to get to at top acceleration?

    Many thanks.

Recheck cable is installed right at control box(throttle cable on throttle arm and shift cable on shift arm) then adjust cable at engine at idle position. Should idle at about 800-900 rpm's.

        Thanks for the quick response.

Any idea what rpm I shouldn't allow it to get to at the top end?
