  • 65 hp solenoid problem

    Hi guys,
I have a 1973 65hp Evinrude that is giving me fits. It started dying when put in gear, on advice we changed out the stator, rectifier, fuel pump, coils, spark plugs, neutral safety switch. Basically everything except the starter and solenoid. It will not start at all now. We have checked all the wires from top to bottom and back to front. We have power to all wires and connections with the exception of the top post of the solenoid. So we replaced that.....still no power and no power to the top post. We ran a jumper and got the starter to spin and engage. But it will not start, turn over or has any signs of life.
We are dumbfounded and baffled. Does anyone have any clues, ideas or suggestions on why we have no power to the top of solenoid and what direction we should go.
    Thanks----Jeanne

Should have 12 volts to starter post of solenoid when key switch is in start position.

Thanks, I was just informed that there is a 2nd neutral safety switch on the motor near the shift cables and that might be the problem. Is it possible to byp*** that neutral safety switch as we already have one in the control box?

If one in control box is working then could byp*** one on engine.
