  • Rebuild options for E60TLESM 1990 Evinrude

Good day ladies and gents, Tony form Uganda calling, hope you all had a Merry Christmas and hoping for a prosperous new year for all.

I have a 3 cylinder 60hp as per subject and I have now established that the pistons are standard (part number 394461) however the bottom cylinder is badly scoured.

    a) what next? do I see if it can be re-bored?

    b) if so what size? I know this is relative to the "depth" of the damage to the sleeve.

    c) could someone please let me know what the maximum re-bore size one can go on these motors, so that the engineering works can establish whether it is possible or not?

    d) Would it be possible to only go oversize on the damaged cylinder?

    e) crank shaft seems fine, however what is the correct method of establishing this?

    f) I will definitely purchase a workshop manual if feasible, could some please let me know what the ISBN number of the correct manual to do the job would be?

Allot of people would suggest a replacement powerhead, however that option is costly for me after shipping, duties, taxes ....etc to Africa.

    Any suggestions would be welcome?

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards
    Bwanatony

Need to have Machine shop check cylinders to see if can be bored oversize, Evinrude only offers std and .030 oversize pistons.
    Can get manuals at Evinrude

Standard cylinder bore size for 1990 E60TLES

      Thank you Boats.net

I shall have the engineering works take a look at the block, so just to clarify, I need them to determine if they can bore to .030 over current standard piston size?

Is there no way I can get the standard bore size if above is not applicable? I do not want to purchase a workshop manual and only find out the block is not viable for a re-bore?

If asking a question like this does somehow break forum rules please accept my apologies in advance.

      Thanks
      Rgds

if it cannot be re-bored you can also have new liners put it !! it can work out expensive, but can be done .
the biggest you can go with oversize is 40 though from wiseco .

it might work out better for you to find a decent secondhand powered .
to do the bores your going to have to completely rebuild it.
new pistons rings all new crank bearings and seals etc
this is not a cheap thing to do and the rest of the engine needs to be very good before it is worth doing.
