Year and Model Question

I got a 25hp Evinrude from a friend in Virginia. I am in South Carolina now and I have to title the engine. I can not find a model number plate anywhere and found the "freeze out plug" with G3174817 stamped on it.

How can I find the year and model number?

I'm new to this site and have the same problem my serial # C7237709 and mod# CE30ELCED 30 HP, i believe it's 1989 ,how can i find out.Made in Canada Thanks

That would be a 1989 model.

that 25hp is around 1992 model going by the decals.

have a close look on anything electrical or plastic for date stamps.
any paper tags inside the motor cover and any marking on fittings.
then go look up the fittings and you just might see they changed part numbers on certain years.

i have done this before on a friends engine to prove point.
he covered everything up like the freeze plug and the side decal.
then i took numbers from everything and looked them up.
i came upwith 1989 and his engine was a 1990 model engine, but actually made in 1989 ha ha so it can be done just takes a while to check everything.
