I recently purchased a '66 80hp Evinrude. It came on a '60 Starcraft Jupiter I'm restoring. I was told engine hasn't run for over a year. Hooked up battery to see what would happen. Turns over slow and negative battery cable got really hot. ***uming I have an electrical issue or short somewhere. Anyone help me diagnose or where I should start looking? Thanks

Load test battery, check condition of battery cables and check connections are clean and tight. could be a starter dragging or engine seizing up.

It was dirty connections, cleaned them all and now fine. I'm waiting for fuel pump parts so I haven't started it yet. I noticed my coil must have cracked and the previous owner used epoxy on it. MarineEngines.com want $165 for a new coil. Any cheaper alternatives?
