Power Trim/Tilt missing gauge...HELP??

I have an 89 E50TLCEC Evinrude 50hp with power trim tilt. This motor HAD a VRO unit that was removed. It looks like the gauge was wired into the VRO panel... and is MIA.

My question is... Is there a way to byp*** the gauge? Can i operate the trim tilt motor WITHOUT the gauge being wired, or is the gauge part of the circuit?? I am going to replace the gauge as well as install a switch near the drivers seat, but in the meantime... I would like to byp*** it??

Power trim circuit doesn't connect to gauge, only trim sender connects to gauge and trim will work without gauge.
