  • gas coming from prop

I have an 88 200xp. I pumped the bulb till it was tight, tried to start the motor using the primer and it wouldnt start. went to the back and saw gas running from the back of the prop, when it tilted it down gas started coming out of the inside of the prop. What could be causing this? Does it mean its flooded, if so why is it flooding? I didnt have this problem untill I got it back from having the carbs worked on and having the water pump replaced.

    Thanks for any help

Did you recheck the bulb?If it was soft could be floats not seating.leak in line.See if the bottom of the cowl has gas in it.

The bulb is still tight. Not rock hard but it still had some pressure on it.I didnt open the cowl and look.

I took the prop off and the gas is coming out from the exhaust.

Its comming from the top some where.THe only way it can get in the exhaust is thru the carb.Tilt it foward and see if gas comes out the front of the carbs. If it does the float is not shutting the fuel off when the bowls fill up..Also be sure the choke is not engaged.

Ok, No gas under cowl, checked that today. When I pump my bulb to get it tight, try and start the motor with no luck then I check the bulb and it is not tight anymore, so I pump it back till its tight and try and start the motor. While It tries to start I can smell gas and gas starts leaking from the exhaust. I guess it has to be a float not shutting off. Can a float be bad or does it have to be the shut off valve.
